A year ago, Abbey were celebrating winning the Yr 3/4 League by the tightest of goal difference margins but the tables were turned at Yardley 5s on Monday evening as Short Heath became champions by just two points.
It was always going to be between Short Heath and Abbey for the crown as they were head and shoulders above everyone else but it was a 3-3 draw against St Thomas More's back in October that would come back to haunt them as had they have won that game the title would have been theirs due to completing ten games with plus thirteen better goal difference.
The two protagonists for the silverware faced off in the evening's opening round of matches and in a tight tussle, honours were even after a 1-1 draw. Abbey then went on to record big wins over Lea Forest, St Bernadette's, Rosary and St Thomas More's whilst Short Heath having stumbled past Lea Forest 1-0 then plundered against Rosary and St Thomas More before finishing with a 3-0 win over St Bernadette's.
The final table saw Short Heath top with 26 points from their ten games, two ahead of Abbey who were then thirteen points superior to third placed Lea Forest and fourth placed St Thomas More's who both completed their campaigns with 11 points each.
