Timberley’s girls remain unbeaten after the second round of league matches at Aston PowerLeague on Wednesday evening but hot on their heels are reigning champions, Short Heath, Paget and last season’s runners-up, Rosary.
Timberley began the evening top of the table ahead of Short Heath on goal difference and opened up their fixtures with a 3-1 over title rivals, Paget. The Timbers then backed up that result with wins over Corpus Christi (2-1) and Court Farm (6-1). However, they were denied a fourth win on the night by a dogged St Thomas More’s side who held out for a 0-0 draw.
Short Heath had just the three games to play but made were in dominant mood as they swept aside Abbey 4-0, Lea Forest 7-0 and Colebourne, 9-0.
Meanwhile Paget made up for that opening loss against Timberley by defeating Rosary 2-0, and Colebourne and Lea Forest both 4-0.
Rosary kept their title hopes alive by defeating Corpus Christi 3-0, Court Farm 3-2 and a 4-0 walkover Lyndon Green who were unable to attend the evening’s fixtures.
Four points further back from Rosary lie SS Peter and Paul who enjoyed two victories against Court Farm, 3-0 and St Bernadette’s, 2-1. And like Timberley, they were held to a goalless draw by St Thomas More’s.
So, after another evening's frantic action, Timberley lead the way on 23 points from nine games played. Short Heath are a further four points back but have played two games less. Paget are also on 19 points but have played eight times whilst Rosary sit a point below having also played eight games. All to play for then on the 18th March, the final day of the girls league to see who will be crowned girls league champions for 2025-26.
