The 2022-23 season saw Phil Hynan enter into his second decade at the helm the District football and once again, the AGM gave enormous credit for his achievements over that period and for his continued dedication and devotion to the district cause. Phil is also co-ordinating district football across the city and weekend matches are now being held at the AVFC Dome Arena.
Regarding last season, Phil described last season as ‘alright’. He said the boys teams were talented but erratic and they didn’t fulfil their potential. However, the Under 11s won the First Division title and were promoted to the Premier League where they competed well despite losing all of their games. They did, though, win the First Division Cup. The under 10s side was made up of mainly under 9 boys and they competed well in finishing fifth out of eight teams in their league.
The girls were a delight to work with and though they started slowly they gained confidence as the season went on. For this season at the present time, there is no coach for the girls’ team so Phil is looking for someone to take the team. He said it is isn’t a massive commitment as matches are once per month on a Friday evening at Bodymoor Heath. The trials are going ahead still in two weeks’ time and hopefully by then a coach will have been found/appointed.
For the season coming, ESPSFA will have the following teams playing:
• Boys under 11s
• Boys under 10s
• Girls under 11s
