The Year 3/4 League kicked off in fine style on Monday evening at a gloomy Yardley's 5 Football Centre and it was Short Heath who left happiest leading the way with thirteen points from the fives games they played. Abbey though are just two points off the leaders, whilst St Thomas More sit third on ten points.
The two sides at the top actually began proceedings facing each other and played out a thunderous 3-3 draw. Heath then went on to win their next four games, 6-2 against Lea Forest, 3-1 vs Rosary, an impressive 4-1 defeat of St Thomas More's before rounding the evening with a 2-0 win over a battling St Bernadette's side.
Abbey also went unbeaten through to their next four games but after beating Lea Forest, Rosary and St Bernadette's, they were held to another 3-3 draw, this time vs St Thomas More's.
St Thomas More's for their part enjoyed successes against Lea Forest, Rosary and St Bernadette's before that aforementioned 4-1 reverse to Short Heath.
The only other side to win a game was Lea Forest who left it very late, scoring in the dying seconds to edge past Rosary 3-2. Rosary ended the night bottom of the table with their only point coming from a 1-1 draw with St Bernadette's. Like Rosary, Bernie's went winless on the night but did secure a second point when they shared the spoils with Lea Forest, also 1-1.
The Year 3/4 league will be played to a conclusion in the New Year with Short Heath, reigning champions Abbey, and St Thomas More's, all vying for the title.
