Bernie's Cruise to Group A Title!

By Joe Perkins

Unbeaten St Bernadette's secure crown; Abbey, SSPP and Paget through to play-off finals.

St Bernadette's eased their way to Group A winners following three wins from three games on Wednesday evening at Yardley 5s. Bernie's were the stand-out performers and deserved their title following 1-0 and 2-0 wins against SSPP and Paget, respectively and a 7-3 dispatch of Abbey in their final game.
However, despite those defeats, the Erdington trio of Abbey, SSPP and Paget can take solace as they will join St Bernadette's on play-off finals night in April.
Abbey finished runners-up to Bernie's after a narrow 1-0 win over Mapledene and a 4-0 walkover against St Barnabas. SSPP also benefitted from St Barnabas being unable to attend and coupled with a last-kick 2-1 win over Harper Bell, saw them through in third place. And Paget, having seen off a battling Rosary, 2-0, and earning a point with Mapledene, meant they completed their seven games on thirteen points, five ahead of 'dene and a play-off finals night berth.
Well done though to all of the girls who represented their schools with pride and passion which helped to make an enjoyable evening's football. And to Mapledene, Harper Bell and Rosary, whose girls never gave up and played with smiles on their faces - always great to see!
So that's it for Group A and it's now over to Group B which concludes on 8th March and we will wait and see who will join St Bernadette's Abbey, SSPP and Paget in the April play-offs.
