Topsy-Turvy Hale!

By Joe Perkins

Blakenhale win one, lose one; Rosary strike seven; Hall net first win.

Blakenhale welcomed Rosary and Erdington Hall on Thursday to their Garretts Green home and it turned into a wild and wonderful evening's football. The opening game saw the home side (not so fresh after a three-day residential trip ended the previous day), kick off against a Rosary side who, like their hosts, were still searching for their first win of the season. Hale started brighter and midway through the first half they scored twice in two minutes with both goals almost identical - free headers from set pieces poorly defended by the Sky Blues. Rosary changed system at half-time and though they improved, Blakenhale kept the Saltley-siders at bay to secure a maiden 3 points this season. Rosary picked themselves up for their second outing as they locked horns with an Erdington Hall side making their debut this season. The Sky Blues were fired up following stern words from their gaffer, Mr P, and they were 5-0 up before Hall netted a consolation. There was still time though for Rosary to add a couple more to put gloss on an emphatic victory that secured their first 3-pointer this term. And the topsy-turvy nature of the evening was summed up with a smarting but now 'pumped-up' Hall fast out of the blocks against 'hale and Hall raced into a swift three-goal lead. Hale managed to pull one back but the Erdington outfit netted a fourth, against a - not surprisingly - tiring Blakenhale.
