Girls League Group B kicked off on Wednesday evening, with seven teams braving the cold, crisp December air and at the end of an exciting and entertaining evening’s football, it was girls league debutants, St Thomas More’s leading the way after racking up 13 points from their opening 5 games; Tommy More’s notched 14 goals without reply in doing so.
Short Heath, who shared a goalless draw with STM, lie second a couple of points back after their first five matches. Heath were also held to a 0-0 draw by Hillstone who themselves otherwise enjoyed a successful evening winning their other three games comfortably. Stone’s ten points sees them in third place, but they have a game in hand on the top two.
Along with STM, Marsh Hill were also making their girls league bow and they could celebrate two wins from their four games, 2-1 vs Lea Forest and 2-0 against Heathlands.
Reigning champions, Timberley were the only other side to record a win on the night, the red and blacks suffered defeats against heavyweights, Hillstone, Short Heath and STM but nicked a narrow 3-2 victory over Heathlands. For their part, Heathlands, and fellow basement dwellers Lea Forest, will hope for better fayre and luck when Group B games return in March.
