Premier Division football resumed on Thursday night at the AVFC Premier Division football resumed on Thursday night at the AVFC Dome and the league leaders, St Thomas More stretched their advantage at the top to eleven points albeit second-placed Abbey have two games in hand.
With Lea Forest unable to attend, STM were awarded a 4-0 walkover (as were Elms Farm) but having rested whilst others were playing, the red'n'blacks were quick about their work against a strong Highfield side, easing their way to a fine 4-0 win.
Prior to that defeat, Highfield had enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Featherstone to keep them in touch with the play-off spots.
Court Farm meanwhile, were making hay themselves in first defeating Rosary. aided by a penalty award barely thirty seconds in and a goalkeeping mix-up with the Farm running out deserved 3-0 winners. They then backed that result up with a 2-0 win over a battling Timberley side. The Timbers though did enjoy a 3-0 win over Elms Farm which earned them their first win of the season.
Following their 3-0 revers to Court Farm, Rosary picked themselves up to win a close-fought game, 2-1, against Featherstone.
The Premier division returns to the dome in three weeks’ time and Court Farm will be in action again and they will be hoping to jump ahead of Abbey into second place and a touch nearer a play-off berth. However, fellow play-off hopefuls, SS Peter and Paul will also be in attendance so the whole play-off picture might have a slightly different look come 5pm on the 22nd February.
