SSPP Rekindle Play-off Hopes!

By Joe Perkins

P&P Chop Down Timbers; Forest and Timberley keep slim top-three finish ambitions alive.

Castle Vale Stadium hosted the latest matches in the Premier division on Thursday evening and it was SS Peter and Paul who emerged with their play-off ambitions re-ignited whilst Lea Forest and Timberley also enjoyed wins to keep their, albeit slender, play-off hopes afloat.

Lea Forest 4 - 1 Court Farm
Lea Forest and Court Farm opened proceedings and in a tight first half with chances at a premium, it was the former who took a one-goal lead into the break following a clever finish from a narrow angle. The second half was much more entertaining and Court Farm found their feet and their equaliser was richly deserved. However, a Forest blitz midway through the half saw them net three times in as many minutes was too much for Farm to claw back and the points went back to Ridpool Road.

SSPP 4 - 2 Timberley
SSPP went into this game that only a win would suffice in seeking a play-off berth in May and the black'n'whites were quick about their work. P&P were on then front foot from the off and could have been three goals up before they eventually took the lead courtesy of a fine individual goal from their elegant midfielder. By half-time it was three nil, with said player netting again and a striker also on target. Timberley though were much improved in the second half and as the rain began to tumble, they found their feet they began to turn the tide. Two goals within two minutes had them firing and they almost levelled before a swift P&P counter saw the midfield starlet complete his hat-trick with a fine low drive.

Timberley 2 - 0 Lea Forest
Forest began the game looking to back up their excellent win earlier against Court Farm but they struggled to break down a solid Timberley rearguard who were keen on continuing their decent second half display against SSPP. There was little to choose between the two sides in the opening stanza but Timberley's tall striker showed adept footwork before executing smartly from the edge of the box. As the rain finally abated, Timberley pounced once more and that was enough to guarantee the points and leave Forest frustrated.

So SSPP leap above Court Farm into third place, four points behind second-placed Abbey but with a game in hand. Lea Forest jump over Rosary into sixth spot and though they are two points ahead, Rosary have two games in hand. Timberley for their part lie three points adrift of Rosary but have played a game less.
