It was La Liga's turn on Tuesday night to visit the dome and it saw the race for the title and the top three heighten further with Short Heath closing in on top spot after two wins but Mapledene staying ahead despite a defeat to fellow chasers, Paget.
Seven schools were present with Hillstone crippled by injury and illness so were unable to field a team.
Short Heath enjoyed a profitable evening as they defeated St Barnabas, 7-0, before a slightly-shortened match concluded with Heath winning 5-1.
The big game of the night was the top-of-the-table clash between Paget and Mapledene and in a game befitting of the occasion and setting, it was the P's who emerged victorious, 1-0, in a titanic tussle; a huge three points which takes Paget to within three points of Short Heath in second place and six points away the front runners, Mapledene but the P’s have three games in hand over the Sheldon-based side. The league leaders though did enjoy a comfortable 9-0 win over St Barnabas to at least take something positive away from Aston.
In other games under the dome’s glittering lights, Parkfield netted their second win of the season as they downed Colebourne, 7-0 and it was against the Coles that Harper Bell grabbed their first win of the campaign, 1-0 in a tight affair which could have gone either way.
La Liga returns in a couple of weeks’ time when Paget get to play two of their games in hand on Mapledene against Harper Bell and a Hillstone side lurking dangerously below the P’s in the race for a top three spot come April.
