Pleasure Dome for STM and Abbey!

By Joe Perkins

Tommy More's power on at top; Abbey rise to second as SSPP slip to third.

The Premier Division bandwagon rolled into the sparkling AVFC Dome at Brookvale on Thursday evening for the inaugural round of winter fixtures, a first in the 16-year history of the ESPSFA League and the games did not disappoint with St Thomas More’s and Abbey the main beneficiaries.
The league leaders kicked off against SS Peter and Paul, another unbeaten side who had opened their campaign with two wins last month but today were without their star player and STM cashed in. A game of all-out attack saw nine goals thumped in and it was the red and blacks who out-gunned the black and whites, 6-3. Tommy More’s then went on a goal rampage against Corpus Christi – 10-1 the scoreline which cemented STM’s spot as runaway leaders – their lead at the top now 5 points. SSPP meanwhile were involved in a hard-fought ding-dong battle with Court Farm but eventually ran out 3-2 winners.
Abbey were able to leap-frog over SSPP thanks to a 6-0 win over Corpus Christi and a 5-2 victory against Featherstone – the amber and blacks, like STM, have played 6 times, two more than SSPP.
Court Farm moved themselves up to fifth in the league after claiming all three points as they also defeated Featherstone, 2-1 this time.
Rosary claimed their first win of the campaign as three second half goals downed a battling Elms Farm side and prior to that, the Rosarians earned their first point of the season after sharing four goals in a exciting and entertaining draw with Corpus Christi.
The Premier Division will return to the Dome in January with eight more games and no doubt more thrills, spills and goals galore!
