Under the lights at Castle Vale on a Tuesday evening, Lyndon Green catapulted themselves to the top of the La Liga table as the Green and Blacks took a maximum six points from their games with Hillstone and Rosary, netting eight times and conceding just the one.
LG opened proceedings against a Hillstone side keen to build on their first win of the season last time out and though Green started the better, the opening exchanges were fairly even. That changed however midway through the half when Green broke through and swiftly added two more to go in three up at the break. Hillstone were resilient in the second stanza and despite LG ball dominance and slick passing movements, managed to keep them at arms length. Stone were rewarded for their efforts with a well-deserved goal late on.
The evening’s second game saw eight goals shared in a highly entertaining game between two sides, Rosary and Hillstone, locked in mid-table. It was Rosary who were quickest out of the blocks, scoring first following a long throw-in and then adding a second shortly after when their striker danced his way through ‘stone’s defence. The second half was when the fun really started with Hillstone scoring three times in as many minutes to completely turn the game around and as Rosary went in search of a leveller, picked them off on the break to go 4-2 up. Rosary though plugged away and pulled a goal back when a well-taken corner caused havoc in the Hillstone penalty area. And a minute later the Rosarians almost had their equaliser only to see their striker’s header hit a post and bounce on the goal line before being hacked away. That was Rosary’s last attempt to grab a point and a moment or two later, with the the final kick of the game, Hillstone made sure of the points adding a fifth from close range.
The curtain was brought down with Lyndon Green taking on Rosary in what was always going to be an uphill task for the Saltleysiders having put such effort in against Hillstone. Lyndon Green’s relentless passing and moving saw them ease into a three goal lead by half-time, helped by some hapless defending and one, exceptional finish from distance. To Rosary’s credit they continued to plug away in the second half but rarely threatened the LG goal and the game followed the same pattern as the first. Green struck twice more to bring up the nap-hand though Rosary did finally manage a shot on goal but their left winger was denied by Green’s ‘keeper.
Lyndon Green then lead the way, three points clear from Mapledene who have played a game less. Hillstone join Rosary on six points but stay behind them in the table as Rosary have a s9litary one goal difference better.
