INCREDIBLE SHORT HEATH SEAL QUAD!

By Joe Perkins

Heath take Cup and fourth major trophy.

Short Heath became only the second team to win four major trophies in an ESPSFA season (emulating the Abbey team of 2018) after they retained the ESPSFA Cup at Yardley 5’s on Wednesday. The cup went along with the League and La Liga titles and the ESPSFA Trophy in a sensational season for the Light Blues.
Eight teams entered the tournament and were placed into two groups of four. In Group A, cup holders, Short Heath cruised through to the semi-finals, winning all three games comfortably. It was much tighter for second place and the other last-four berth with Hillstone, guest side, Starbank and Timberley all tied on three points. However, Hillstone’s better goal difference was enough to nick it.
Group B saw Paget ease through to the last four in similar style to Short Heath, three wins out of three, nineteen goals plundered with just the once conceded. SS Peter and Paul were second following their two wins over Elms Farm and St Bernadette’s.
The semi final line-up then saw Short Heath take on SSPP with Paget facing Hillstone. And whilst Paget were in total control in their game - eventually winning 4-1, the same couldn’t be said of Short Heath who shared ten goals in a crazy, tops-turvy, roller-coaster-of-a-game in their clash with P&P: 6-4 the final score and though Heath never trailed, they also never really shook SSPP off and with a minute to go the black and whites, 6-4 down, missed a great opportunity for a grandstand finish when they struck a spot kick wide.
And so to the final and yet another showdown between these two age-old rivals. Both sides went tooth and nail at each other but the game was littered with stoppages and didn’t really flow at any time. Short Heath though always carried the greater threat and scored at crucial times as they battled their way to a 3-0 win. The final may not have been a classic but it must not detract from Short Heath’s remarkable achievement - they were deserved winners tonight as they were at Castle Vale a few weeks ago.
And who knows, with the girls and year 4/5 tournaments still to come, Short Heath May yet add to what is becoming a bloated trophy cabinet at their Streetly Road base.
