HEATH RETAIN GIRLS' CROWN!

By Joe Perkins

Short Heath fight off Timberley to seal title again.

The girls league season concluded on Wednesday afternoon at Yardley 5's with Short Heath securing a second consecutive title, shrugging off a valiant Timberley in the process.
Three schools, Short Heath, Timberley and Rosary, were all in with a chance of winning the league as they took to the pitches in this ultimate round of matches. Of the thirteen schools in the league six were unable to attend, so there were a number of walkover results which left Short Heath top, two points ahead of Timberley and four ahead of Rosary. Heath knew that two wins against Paget and Corpus Christi would be enough to secure them the title for the second season in a row.
The first hurdle for Heath was against old rivals, Paget, but Heath prevailed 3-2 after a frantic, end-to-end game. Heath then cruised to an 8-0 win over Corpus Christi and though Timberley eased past SS Peter and Paul, 8-1 and Rosary, 5-1, it wasn't enough to wrestle the crown from Short Heath.
