Dene Flex Muscles to Stretch Lead at Top!

By Joe Perkins

Mapledene maintain 100% win record ang guarantee play-off spot; Angels and SSPP advance in play-off charge; Timbers ambitions falter.

Mapledene emerged as the big winners on a gloriously sunny afternoon on Thursday as the Premier division entered into its season-defining final weeks. The 'dene extended their lead at the top to six points and in doing so, became the first team to guarantee themselves a play-off spot; they are also still the only side in league to have won all of their games so far this season.
Dene welcomed Court Farm to a sunny Sheldon, but the niceties ended at kick-off as three goals in both halves eased the league leaders to a 6-0 win. Farm were valiant in defeat but kudos for making an arduous traffic-laden, cross-city trip. Dene - and Court Farm - were also both awarded 4-0 wins as Highfield were unable to make the fixtures.
Over in Kitts Green, Guardian Angels were enhancing their play-off ambitions with 2-0 and 1-0 wins over Leaf Forest and Corpus Christi, respectively. The six points taken from Ridpool Road, rocketed the Angels to second place on 12 points, six behind front-runners, Mapledene. In the other game at the Forest, the home side defeated Corpus Christi 4-1 .
Down the road in Shard End the sun may well have been shining but few from Timberley were smiling as their play-off hopes were dented by SS Peter and Paul after a 3-1 reverse and a goalless stalemate with St Bernadette's. SSPP however, staked their claim to a play-off berth by seeing off Bernie's 1-0 in the afternoon's other game at Bradley Road. Bernie's gaffer Mr M-J, said his side could have played until midnight and still not have scored! SSPP then, jump over their hosts in the table, to third, both have ten points but the black'n'whites have a better goal difference and also have two games in hand on the Timbers.
