On a gloriously sunny Tuesday afternoon, Short Heath concluded their regular season with a 9-0 win over Gunter and the three points gathered takes them to 25 points from their 11 games. Gunter's goalie pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the score below double figures earning praise from the opposition bench. Short Heath then sit three points above Paget but the P's have two games in hand and which they will play this Thursday - they will need to take 4 points from those games to take the title away from the Heathens.
Meanwhile, over in Shard End, Hillstone, with three of their better players missing through injury and illness, knew only a win would keep their albeit faint play-off hopes alive as they took on St Barnabas. After a close first half, only separated by a wonder strike by Hillstone’s forward, St Barnabas started to take control of the game in the second half, putting in some fantastic balls from set pieces. After a mix up at the back, St Barnabas’s star player struck the ball passed the Hillstone ‘keeper from distance and with that strike went Hillstone’s play-off hopes leaving ‘stone boss, Mr Flint, “Gutted.”
The play-off picture is now complete with Short Heath, Paget and St Bernadette's all confirmed and the outstanding issues of who takes the title and who finishes where will be decided over the next nine days.
