Tuesday afternoon saw Short Heath and Paget follow Mapledene in making statements of intent for their seasons with resounding wins in their opening games of the season.
Short Heath commenced their campaign against Harper Bell at Holly Lane and the latter side's poor first half showing helped Short Heath to a five-goal half-time lead. Stern words from Bell gaffer Mansell ensured his charges didn't lose the second half and with a change in formation, backed by higher intensity, some route one football and a Penalty save, meant they did just that. Heath however, ran out 7-2 winners. The Heathens then backed that victory up with another as they shrugged off a gallant St Bernadette's side, 4-1.
Whilst Short Heath were collecting a maximum six points at Holly Lane, Paget were doing likewise at St Barnabas. The P's first saw off Colebourne, 6-0, and more narrowly, the hosts, 2-1.
Also on six points are St Bernadette's after they enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Harper Bell in the evening's other game at Holly Lane. A very even first half saw Bernie’s take the lead with a great strike from distance hurtling into top bins. Bernie’s controlled second half and deservedly doubled their lead and it could have been more but for a missed penalty struck wide of the target. Though Bernie's have six points, they have played three games more than those immediately above them in the table.
One final game to comment on from Tuesday's La Liga action which saw St Barnabas win a five-goal tussle with Colebourne, 3-2.
