Abbey Maintain Title Charge!

Leaders stretch advantage but held by champs; Heath down 'stone to stay in touch.

Tuesday afternoon saw La Liga leaders, Abbey, reigning champions Short Heath and play-off hopefuls, Hillstone, all meeting at Hillstone's home ground in grey, blustery conditions and it was Abbey who would breeze out of Shard End with their stranglehold at the summit still intact.
The stand-out fixture was the Abbey vs Short Heath clash and though neither side could break the dead-lock, it didn't detract from a pulsating, end-to-end fixture in which both goalkeepers pulled off a series of outstanding stops. A large amount of credit goes to Short Heath who fielded a team made up of almost entirely Year 5 children.
Prior to that, Heath's youngsters saw off a battling Hillstone side, 3-0 to leave Heath second in the table.
Abbey concluded their night's work with hard-fought 2-1 victory over their hosts and in doing so, maintained their three point cushion over Short Heath at the top of the division.
Things could change again however later in the week as third-placed Lyndon Green go to St Barnabas knowing that wins over St Barnabas and Paget would see them reclaim their place at the top of the pile.
