Rock Solid Rosary Go Top!

By Joe Perkins

Rosary hold LG in titanic tussle. Colebourne's battlers suffer defeats. Abbey make it 3 out of 3 wins.

A tremendous afternoon's football at Colebourne on Thursday, concluded with Rosary and Lyndon Green involved in a rare - but nevertheless pulsating - 0-0 draw. LG strained every sinew in trying to break down a solid Rosary rearguard that stood tall and never wilted under tumultuous pressure. The Rosary keeper, Abbas, was inspired and even when the Wensley Roaders did get past him, The Light Blues skipper, Shah, was there to desperately, scrape the ball off the line. Honours were even then after 25 terrifically, hectic minutes.
In the afternoon's opening game, Rosary struggled to see off a dogged and determined Colebourne team, who, despite eventually losing 4-1, never gave up. In the second game, The Coles put in a carbon-copy performance against The Greens but couldn't prevent a final 5-2 reverse. Full credit Mrs Mills' boys.
Meanwhile over in Kitts Green, Abbey were maintaining their 100% record in the league, with a hard-fought victory over an eager Oval side. The Abbey camp viewed the result as another fantastic one for their side. And why not, as The Oval is usually a tough place to go to and retrieve maximum points.
So, after a brief but exciting start to the campaign, an exciting race is afoot atop the Baxi Boilers division. Rosary head into the winter break 1 point ahead of Abbey and 3 ahead of Lyn Green. However, the latter sides both have a game in hand on The Light Blues and Rosary and LG have still to face the Erdington outfit. And then there's Mapledene, Blakes Hall and Oval still in the mix...
So, without wishing away Christmas and all its Yuletide glee, as far as the ESPSFA is concerned, it's roll on spring and the race for the title!

Where next?
