The second round of matches in the girls league took place on Wednesday evening at Castle Vale Stadium and it was Corpus Christi who turned heads scoring 12 times without reply in their opening three games. St Matthew's also enjoyed an unbeaten start to their campaign but had to be satisfied with two draws and two wins from their first four games of the season.
Seven schools ventured over for a night under the lights with Corpus Christi laying down an early marker by winning their opening game, 4-0 against Hillstone. Blakenhale began with a 1-0 win courtesy of a last-kick winner against Rosary, while Oval and St Matthew's failed to find the net.
Matt's then won a tight affair with Timberley, 1-0, whilst Hillstone and Blakenhale shared 4 goals in a game which featured two penalties. The Oval and Rosary drew 0-0 and struggled to fire a shot in anger in a game played mostly in midfield.
Corpus then returned for the third round of fixtures and stormed to a 5-0 victory over Blakenhale. Rosary lost another game to a last-kick goal, St Matthew's the happy recipients of an errant Rosary throw-in. Meanwhile, Timberley and Oval played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.
The final round of games saw Corpus go 'three for three' with a 3-0 defeat of The Oval. St Matthew's and Hillstone shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw while neither Timberley nor Rosary could find a way to breach each other's defence in a 0-0 stalemate.
So Corpus with their maximum 9-point haul, sit on top of the table with St Matthew's second, a point behind - Corpus though, have a game in hand.
A number of schools have still to begin their campaigns, but they will amend that when the girls league reconvenes at CVS on December 5th.
