A far sunnier day greeted the Year 3/4 tournament after last week's rain-soaked SEND event. Seven teams took to the pitches at Yardley 5's and rather than a traditional knockout tournament, this was run on a league basis with each school playing each other.
From start to finish it was a tournament which bristled with excitement, entertainment, great goals, super saves and tremendous tackles, with each and every child playing their heart out for their school.
And it was Short Heath who eventually took home the trophy as the tournament went down to the final round of matches.
Going into those last games, Short Heath stood atop the table, two points clear of Paget and knew that a win against Timberley would guarantee them the silverware. However, Paget could also claim the crown if Heath lost and they beat Lea Forest - Forest themselves though had runners-up medals to play for as a win for them would pip Paget to second place.
And lo and behold both Timberley and Lea Forest won! The Timbers defeated Short Heath 4-3 in an absolute belter of a game. Heath were clearly tired after playing six consecutive games but that should take nothing away from a bubbly Timberley side who deserved their win; Timberley would finish in fifth place but only six points behind the tournament winners and the team they had just beaten, Short Heath.
Sadly for Paget, they blew their chances of grabbing the shiny, new cup as Lea Forest stunned the P's 3-0 and with it silver medals for themselves thus relegating Paget to third place.
