Mapledene flew to the top of the table with two wins out of two on another frenetic evening in the La Liga division.
The Maples won a hard fought game with Lea Forest, 3-1, with both sides showing some rustiness after the mid-season break and it took an exquisite opening goal from 'dene's captain to get things going. This though, was cancelled out by a fine back post header from a corner as Mapledene were pegged back after a strong start. The hosts exerted more pressure in the second half though, and a mazy run and square from Maples' skipper to an onrushing winger handed 'dene the lead; they never looked back after that and came away victorious.
Mapledene's high-pressing game then paid dividends with a 6-0 triumph over a tiring Erdington Hall side, which had previously been involved in a terrific encounter with Lea Forest - a game the Foresters nicked 2-1. The Maples rampant victory was wrapped up by a top corner smash from their centre-back.
Meanwhile, over at Timberley in sunny Shard End, Abbey were doing their best to keep pace with the Maples. The Erdington-based side won a tight game with hosts, Timberley 1-0, and then put 5 past a St Bernadette's side who had a disappointing afternoon - they lost their other game 1-0, to Timberley.
What a division this is turning out to be. Maples lead the way, three points clear of Abbey and SS P&P and both of those have two games in hand on the leaders. And next Tuesday, Abbey face P&P in what could be an explosive encounter.
