Greens Take Title After Shoot-out Drama. Heart-break For Rosary. Lyn Green 1 - 1 Rosary (a.e.t.)(LG won 6-5 on penalties)

Tuesday evening saw an exciting play-offs night at Hobmoor Academy with Lyndon Green securing their fifth ESPSFA league crown - but only after defeating a spirited Rosary side, 6-5 on penalties.
In a pulsating game Rosary were 90 seconds away from glory. Already a goal to the good - a header mid-way through the first half they missed a glorious 'one-on-one' opportunity to put the final to bed but their top scorer was denied by an outstanding save by LG's keeper. Seconds later, the Dark Blues conceded the goal that led to 6 minutes of extra-time. Rosary failed to clear after a goal-mouth scramble and Lyndon levelled with a close-range shot into the corner of the net.
The Greens were the better side in extra-time but Rosary hung in and defending determinedly, ultimately took the game to a nerve-racking penalty shoot-out. After the regulation 5 shots, the score stood at 4-4, both sides having missed one a piece. Sudden death followed and, at 6-5 down, Rosary stepped up to level but saw their kick saved by the Greens 'keeper and the title was on its way back to Wensley Road.
In reaching the final, both sides had had contrasting semi finals. Rosary narrowly defeated St Bernadette's 1-0 while Lyn Green eventually powered past Lea Forest, 6-2. Forest were 2 down and managed to draw level only to see The Greens turn up the heat in the second half.
Bernies and Forest then met in a 3rd placed decider which also ended in a 1-1 draw with Bernies emerging victorious after their penalty shoot-out with The Foresters.

Dejected Rosary.
