LG Girls Rule Power League Roost!

By Joe Perkins

LG swipe title from Timbers.

Lyndon Green's girls cemented their schools' Power League domination with a 4-0 final win over holders Timberley, backing up their year 5 boys victory last week.
Ten teams took part in the tournament on Thursday which made for an enjoyable evening's football and two groups of five battled it out for four semi-final berths.
In Group A full credit must go to Parkfield, who, despite losing all their games, never gave up and kept on playing with smiles on their faces. LG blasted their way to first place smashing in 22 goals in the process but it was much tighter for second spot. The Oval and Highfield were level on points but were narrowly separated by a 2-goal difference margin and it was the aforementioned side that progressed.
In group B, Timberley bossed, winning all 4 games and netting 18 times. Rosary, having won three of their matches, finished second and advanced to the semi-final.
Both semi-finals were pretty much one-sided affairs with LG gliding past Rosary and Timberley, eventually, gaining superiority over The Oval.
The Final: Two age-old adversaries, the best two teams in the tournament, 8 minutes of football. The opening exchanges were fiercely contested with no quarter given by either side. The game changed however in the third minute when a LG strike deflected past Timberley's rooted goalkeeper into the net. The Greens then turned on the power with second and third goals swiftly following. Late on, a 'cherry on the top' fourth goal was added sealing another trophy for the Wensley Roaders.
Question is, who's going to stop them?
