Forest on Fire as Timberley go Top!

By Joe Perkins

Forest in 6-point haul; Timbers head table; SSPP go nap.

Following its winter hibernation, the Premier division woke from its slumber with Lea Forest, Timberley and SSPP the main beneficiaries as the heavyweights flexed their collective muscles on Thursday afternoon.
The Foresters welcomed Corpus Christi and Parkfield to their Ridpool Road base and were decisive in a 4-0 win over the former but were made to work harder for their 2-1 victory over the latter. In the other game in Kitts Green, Parkfield snatched their first three points of the season with a 3-2 win against a 'gung-ho' Corpus side who pushed 'field all the way.
Meanwhile, over in Shard End, Heathlands entertained SS Peter and Paul and though the visitors dominated possession in a tight first half, there were few chances created. However, after the break the black and whites upped the ante and within moments of the restart, were one up. A superb cross was met by a brilliant header and from that moment on, SSPP went into overdrive. The Erdington side created chance after chance and quickly found themselves three goals to the good and as Heathlands' heads dropped, P&P cruised to a thumping, 5-0 win.
Finally, on the opposite side of Shard End, Timberley and Thornton were in action and it looked like the Thorns would take all three points back home with them but were denied by a last-kick equalizer which earned the Timbers the point that takes them to the top of the table.
