Wednesday afternoon saw the girls league group stages commence at a crisp and chilly Power League in Yardley, and it was Lea Forest and Short Heath grabbing the headlines.
Forest began their Group B campaign with 4 wins out of 4 and conceded only one goal in the process - that in a 4-1 win against the reigning champions, Timberley. LF then followed up with 5 and 7-0 wins over Audley and Highfield respectfully. The Timbers also defeated Audley and Highfield and are in second place, 3 points behind the Foresters. All the teams in Group B received 4-0 walkover wins against an absent Brownmead.
In Group A, league debutants Short Heath, made their own grand entrance and they top the division following 3 wins and a draw in their opening 4 games. Heath beat Harper Bell, 4-0, St Bernadette's 3-0, and won an Erdington derby, 2-1, against Erdington Hall; the Heathens other result was a 1-1 draw with Blakenhale. The other games in Group A were a right old mixed bag with teams taking points off each other, Blakenhale lost 4-1 to Harper Bell, but beat Bernies 2-1 and in turn Bernies and Bell drew 3-3 - all highly entertaining.
The remaining teams in both groups of the girls league, begin their campaigns on Wednesday 6th December.
