Timbers' Girls Lead Way!

By Joe Perkins

Timberley, Short Heath and Paget set standard on girls league opening night.

This season's girls league opened up on a bitterly cold evening at PowerLeague, Aston but Timberley and Short Heath swiflty turned up the heat as both went unbeaten and even shared the spoils when the two met.
Thirteen teams had entered the league with all but Lea Forest attended and despite the near-freezing conditions, there was no shortage of entertainment, goals or drama.
Both Timberley and Short Heath ended up with almost identical records having both won three games and drawing the one, Timberley netted 9 times to Heath's 8 - both conceded just the one goal. The two are separated at the top courtesy of Timberley's 4-0 walkover win against Lea Forest giving them 13 points, three ahead of Heath and third-placed Paget. The P's also had an unbeaten start to their campaign and only a inferior goal difference sees them sit just below Short Heath.
Rosary, in fourth on nine points along with St Thomas More and SS Peter and Paul a couple of points further back will still feel they have a part to play in challenging for the title when the girls league resumes in February.
