Highfield were the show-stoppers on Thursday afternoon as they ran riot at Holly Lane as the Premier Division’s curtain was raised. Field found the net a mere sixteen times notching eight against both SS Peter and Paul and Corpus Christi and conceding just the two.
Timberley were also among the goals at their home base as they downed St Bernadette’s 4-0 and Featherstone, 5-0 to give them a perfect start. In the other game at Bradley Road, St Bernadette’s left it very late to grab a point against Featherstone in an entertaining 2-2 draw - Bernie’s equalised with virtually the last kick of the game.
And over in Kitts Green, Lea Forest were also helping themselves to six points as they first battled past Guardian Angels, 2-0 before concluding the afternoon with a more comfortable 3-1 victory over Court Farm. And it was a tough evening for the Farmers as they were also beaten by Guardian Angels this time by four goals to nil.
Highfield then sit top due to their superior goal difference but have Timberley and Lea Forest for company with all three having maximum points from their two opening games; Guardian Angels lie fourth with three points.
