St Thomas More’s followed Lyndon Green in winning both of their opening games in the La Liga division as they began their campaign with full points at Hillstone on Tuesday afternoon.
Stone welcomed both St Thomas More’s and Rosary to their Shard End home and kicked proceedings off against the former and it was the Sheldon side who eventually broke down a stubborn Hillstone resistance to run out three nil winners.
Tommy More’s were then gifted a goal inside ten seconds against Rosary whose goalkeeper picked up a back-pass direct from kick-off and the boys in red netted from a quickly taken free-kick. Tommy’s quickly added two more before Rosary finally got going and pulled a goal back. But two more second half strikes put the game to bed. Rosary did score again but the game ended in a 5-2 STM win.
Rosary then went again against their hosts and took an early lead before their generosity in defence took over meaning they trailed 3-1 at the break. The Sky a blues then presented Hillstone with a goal again from a poorly taken kick-off right at the start of the second period. Rosary did make a fist of it though pulling two goals back, one a tremendous individual effort but it was all in vain as Hillstone hung on to win a terrific encounter, 4-3.
So St Thomas More’s join Lyndon Green on six points at La Liga’s summit - only Green’s two-goal better goal difference the difference and keeping them top.
