Deadlock at Timberley keeps STM Top!

By Joe Perkins

Timbers and Tommy More's share spoils; Abbey fire title warning; Farm down Corpus; Corpus oust ‘stone.

On a gloriously sunny afternoon on Thursday, Timberley hosted league leaders St Thomas More's at their Bradley Road base knowing that a win would draw them level on points with their opponents. However, try as they may, neither side could break the other down and a fiercely competitive game ended goal-less.
Meanwhile just down the road at Castle Vale, Abbey were taking advantage of that 0-0 score-line from Shard End easing their way to a 6-0 win over Featherstone.
Also at CVS, Court Farm kept their faint play-off hopes alive with a 3-1 win over a battling Corpus Christi side. Corpus did however leave Cadtle Vale with three points of their own as they defeated Featherstone, 4-0.
The point picked up at Timberley, sees STM still in front, but they have now concluded their regular season and have 25 points from their ten games played; they are now also guaranteed a play-off spot. Timberley remain firmly in the title hunt, just three points behind and also have two games in hand – one of which is a potential title decider vs Abbey. Abbey themselves lie just the one point further back but have three games left to play and that Timberley fixture looks pivotal. And if Court Farm are to sneak into the play-offs, they will have to win all three of their remaining games and hope Abbey lose all three of theirs. The destiny of the Premier title however, will go down to the wire and could go to any of the current top three.
