Thursday saw a busy night of action in the Baxi Boilers division with Abbey taking maximum points from their two games. The Erdington side began with a 2-0 victory over hosts, Coleburne and were then involved in a much tighter affair against Highfield, eventually edging home 1-0. 'Field boss, Mr Jay, cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines as his boys tried to walk the ball into the net only to look on in despair as his charges conceded a penalty that proved the decisive moment. Abbey remain in 3rd place sitting on 16 points and in their quest for a play-off berth, will be hoping for Lyndon Green to slip up in their remaining games.
In the evening's other game at Coleburne, Mr Jay was smiling rather more brightly as Field scored 4 times without reply against The Coles.
Meanwhile, over in Yardley, The Youths were entertaining Brownmead and things were looking rosy for the home team as they led 2-0 at half-time. However, a barnstorming second half saw 'Mead recover and smash in 4 unhindered strikes leaving Youths boss Mr Walmsley pondering his retirement. And they call it the beautiful game!
