100% Tommy More's Go Nap!

By Joe Perkins

Undefeated STM make it 11 wins from 11 games; Featherstone end season with victory.

Going over to Castle Vale Stadium on Thursday afternoon, Premier champions St Thomas More, knew that only mid-table Rosary stood in their way of a 100% season. And it was the Rosarians who struck first, taking an unlikely lead in only the second minute when their striker’s effort rolled under STM’s ‘keeper. The champions then began to get into their stride and soon levelled from the penalty spot. Incessant pressure on the Rosary eventually paid off and STM led 2-1. Rosary worked hard to keep it that way until the break with some stout defence backed up by some smart goalkeeping. Rosary continued to make Tommy’s work hard and it took until the last five minutes for them to stretch their advantage. A fine drive made it three and as Rosary wilted (having only 7 players) STM netted twice more to give the score-line a slightly flattering look - from Rosary’s angle anyway. Tommy More’s though had their eleventh success of an outstanding season and will hope to continue that streak and retain their ESPSFA title on 22nd May.
There was one other game at the CVS and that saw Featherstone defeat Corpus Christi 2-1 in an entertaining game. Either side could have won it, but it was the Feather’s who prevailed and in doing so lifted themselves above Rosary to finish their season seventh. Corpus conclude their season next Thursday with games against Heathlands and Elms Farm.
