Too Close to Call!

Play-off eliminators

Thursday 9th May

Mapledene vs SSPP

Paget vs Abbey

With La Liga and Premier champions, Short Heath and St Thomas More already assured of a place in the league play-off finals at Castle Vale Stadium on May 22nd, four further protagonists take to the field on Thursday afternoon all harbouring desires of being there with them.

At Mapledene’s splendidly leafy arena, ‘dene welcome a SS Peter and Paul side who are bang in form having finished the regular season in style; their last four games won with a 17-3 aggregate. However, Mapledene will be no push-overs and will be smarting after the way their season concluded. The key for ‘dene will be stopping SSPP relentless passing but they will back themselves with a defence that conceded just two goals in seven of their league games.

Across at Holly Lane is another tie hugely difficult to predict as La Liga runners-up, Paget face an Abbey side who have lost just one of their last seven league outings (that a 3-2 defeat to SSPP) and who have found scoring goals quite easy of late. Paget were wounded by their 5-2 defeat to arch-rivals Short Heath but have been impressive since and they showed their mettle in winning a crunch clash at Hillstone last week and they will hope to continue in that vein on Thursday.

Too close to call? You betcha! But these four heavyweights of the ESPSFA will guarantee excitement and entertainment and will play with immense pride and passion. Bring it on!

Where next?

Paget and P&P Through to Finals! P's too hot for Abbey; SSPP steer past 'dene.
100% Tommy More's Go Nap! Undefeated STM make it 11 wins from 11 games; Featherstone end season with victory.
