P&P Lay Down Marker!

By Joe Perkins

16-goal P&P set standard at the summit. Yardley double makes it 3 out of 3 for Youths. Hillstone go third, Bernies, fourth.

SS P&P showed their desire to go one better than last season by laying down a hefty marker at league debutantes, St Matthews. The Black and Whites saw off the home-side 9-3 in a game coach, Mr Leydon, said was a lot tighter than the score-line suggests; Matt's giving a good account of themselves despite a late capitulation. P&P also eased past another new school making their ESPSFA bow, Cromwell, 7-0 to make it 4 wins from 4 games. St Matthew's then secured their first 3 points defeating Cromwell, 5-1.
Over in Yardley, Mr Walmsley's Youths were setting about maintaining their 100% start to the season. A 2-0 victory over Gunter and a narrow 2-1 win against Hillstone took the Youths up to second place, 3 points behind P&P. Hillstone gained their second win of the season as they edged out an unlucky Gunter, 2-0 to leap up to third.
St Bernadette's joined the Stone on 7 points as they left Kingstanding with maximum points. Bernies defeated homers, Maryvale, 3-1, and fellow visitors, Short Heath, 2-0. The Vale then gained themselves their second win of the campaign with a 2-0 triumph over the Heathens.
And finally, over at Waverley, Timberley beat their hosts, 5-1 and shared a 1-1 draw with Ward End who had earlier notched up their maiden victory as they squeezed past The Wavers, 2-1.
