'Abbey' Day at Yardley!

By Joe Perkins

Debutants Yardley double. Blakesley on fire at The Oval.

Thursday evening saw league newcomers, Abbey, mark their entrance to the ESPSFA Baxi Boilers division with two excellent 2-0 wins over Yardley and Mapledene. The '6 point-no-goals-conceded' combination, constitutes a fantastic start for the Erdington outfit. In the night's other game at Yardley, Mapledene thumped the home side 6-0, taking The Maples to the top of the table. After both games, Youths boss Mr Walmsley said "Normal service resumed for us" before adding, "I'm blaming the fact our leading scorer was absent. Well that's what I'm convincing myself with!".
Meanwhile, over in Kitts Green, Blakesley Hall put their two defeats from last week behind them by comfortably beating hosts, Oval, 6-2, and then Highfield in a tighter game, 2-1.
In the final fixture at The Oval, The Ovalites sent Highfield to their second reverse of the evening, beating the Alum Rock side by 2 goals to nil.
