On Tuesday afternoon, Hillstone helped to christen Yardley's new ultra-modern 3G pitch and in doing so eased to a 2-0 victory which took them back to the top of the division. It was a controlled performance from the Stone and they restricted the Youths to just the one chance whilst at the other end, Yardley's 'keeper was forced into a string of fine stops to keep the score respectable for the home side.
Meanwhile, over at Waverley, Blakenhale were looking to boost their play-off hopes with games against the hosts and fellow visitors, Short Heath.
Both sides won their games with Waverley, 'hale 6-0 and Heath, 4-0 and it was the Heathens who dented 'hale's top three chances with a well crafted 2-1 win - some deserved retribution for Mr James's boys who were unfortunate last time out at Timberley.
Swiftly across to Timberley where Audley boss, Mr Aksar, was taking charge of his team for the final time - it didn't quite as he would have hoped. In a really good game, Timberley started brightly but spurned the chance to go ahead early on when they missed a penalty. Audley then grew in confidence and took a one to nothing lead into the break. Timbers though hit back right after the break and from then on it was game on. Chances came and went at either end until Timberley landed a killer punch in the last minute to grab the spoils.
A fond 'adieu' then to Mr Aksar (Mo, to us all) who after 9 years at the helm at Audley Road, is moving on to pastures new - his passion and undoubted commitment to his school team will be sorely missed. We wish him well in the future and know that games against Audley now aren't going to be quite the same.
