Tuesday night saw a return to action in La Liga and SS Peter & Paul and Short Heath made hay with both taking a maximum 6 points from their respective games to hit the front in what is still a fragmented-looking table.
SSPP travelled across to Nechells to take on St Matthew's and fellow visitors, Colebourne. It was the Black'n'whites who stole the headlines after defeating the home side, 7-0, and the Coles, 5-0. Colebourne did manage to net their first win of the season as they inflicted more misery on St Matt's with a 3-1 victory.
Castle Vale Stadium was the venue for the Erdington trio of Short Heath, Abbey and league debutantes, Featherstone. And it was the former who left the happier after they defeated reigning ESPSFA champions, Abbey, 2-1 and newbies Featherstone, 5-0. Two excellent performances from the Heathens whose attacking style will be tough to combat and they certainly mean business this season. In the evening's remaining fixture, Featherstone nabbed their maiden three points in the ESPSFA, downing Abbey 2-1.
Abbey's defence of the title took a bruising tonight, but this has to be tempered by the fact that a team of Year 5s wore the amber and black as their Year 6s were engaged in a prior school commitment. Credit to the Abbey for committing to the fixtures.
So, as previously stated, the La Liga table has a disjointed look about it with four teams still to play, Colebourne having played six times and the others one to four times. However, both SSPP and Short Heath won't mind that, and only a five-goal better goal difference separates the two schools with the former sitting at the summit. The table may look different again by this time next week as twelve games are scheduled to take place.
