New Season Starts with Flourish!

By Joe Perkins

Heath, Lyn Green, Dene and Corpus all win two out of two; debutants Guardian Angels kick off with win; champions Paget suffer early setback.

La Liga Division

Tuesday afternoon saw the inaugural games in La Liga with Short Heath laying down an early marker at Holly Lane as they first defeated reigning champions, Paget, before cruising past Featherstone. Paget, however, didn’t leave empty handed, picking up three points in their other game against Featherstone.
Lyndon Green joined Short Heath on six points as they won their opening two games by defeating both home side Hillstone, and St Thomas More’s. Tommy More’s did beat the hosts though to at least take three points from their visit to Shard End.

Premier Division

As per La Liga, two teams also took maximum points as the Premier Division began on Thursday. At Timberley, visitors Mapledene were quick, and slick about their work as they comfortably defeated both Timberley and Lea Forest. The Timbers then chopped down Forest to appease the home supporters.
Across at Holly Lane there were three tight games and it was Corpus Christi who managed to snag six points, edging past Court Farm and St Bernadette’s. In the other game at the Lane, Court Farm grabbed three points for themselves by beating Bernie’s in another close encounter.
And finally, just the one game took place at Castle Vale Stadium with league newcomers, Guardian Angels impressing in a 3-1 defeat of a determined Highfield side.
