Forest and Timbers Fire as Girls League Returns

By Joe Perkins

Lea Forest and Timberley lead the way on exciting opening night; Short Heath and Hillstone keep touch.

It had been some considerable amount of Covid-fuelled time since a ball was kicked in anger in the Girls league, so it was a sheer delight to see the league back in full swing recently. All nine teams were smartly turned out in their kits and represented their schools with pride, passion and commitment. We then witnessed a fantastic evening’s football, rich in goals and full of endeavour.
And after the dust had settled, Lea Forest and Timberley found themselves locked at the top of the table with both sides sitting on 10 points and both with identical goal differences – Timberley, however, have played one game less. In a tight-looking table, Hillstone and Short Heath lie just a point behind, Hillstone have played one game more though and have a better goal difference as a result.
Heathlands are just a couple of points further back as they took their 7 points from five games played, and two further points behind are Abbey, who have also played five times. Next is St Bernadette’s who have 4 points their four games and they were made up with a win over Lea Forest and a 3-3 draw against Timberley. Brownmead sit one place off the bottom courtesy of their 7-0 win over basement side Parkfield who, though, are still awaiting their first point, battled away valiantly all night and played with smiles on their faces which was to their great credit.
The second and final round of matches in the Girls league take place on Wednesday March 16th and any of the teams can still win it so we can look forward to another terrific night of football.
