Colebourne Comeback Kings!

By Joe Perkins

Coles deny Alston in late goal drama and peg back Rosary.

Timberley on Thursday saw three games, three draws and twelve goals on a pulsating evening of 'Premier' division action.
In a breath-taking final game of the night, Alston led Colebourne 3-1 with 7 minutes remaining only to see The Coles claw their way back to level at 3-3. Almost immediately, Alston went ahead again with barely 2 minutes remaining. Then came the drama and with it, controversy. In the final minute, a goal-mouth scramble ended with a close-range poke at goal. The shot was initially saved by the Alston 'keeper but in doing so, he - in the view of the referee - took the ball behind the goal-line and into the side of the net, before quickly taking it back out. After a moment of deliberation, the goal was awarded and a heart-broken Alston were denied 3 points. The goal was hard on Alston's number 1 who was magnificent all evening. Earlier, in Alston's first game, vs Rosary, he was man of the match following a string of outstanding saves which ultimately earned his team a point in a 0-0 draw. Rosary can also look at their profligacy in front of goal for the stale-mate.
In the opening game of the evening, Rosary sprinted into a 2-goal lead against Colebourne only to see The Coles turn it around in the second half. A superb individual goal followed by a header from a corner, levelled the game and the two sides settled for a point apiece.
