Champions Lyndon Green returned to league action at Wensley Road on Thursday evening and defeated Highfield, 3-0, and The Oval, 3-1. The Oval though leapt to 1st place after a single-goal victory over Highfield.
In the evening's opening game, Highfield paid the price for some poor defending in the first-half and ultimately found themselves 3 down at the break. They improved in the second half, had more of the ball themselves and restricted the Greens to long balls and long-range efforts.
The Alum Rock side, in their smart new 'Dortmund-esque' yellow and black kit, then took on The Oval and in an entertaining and closely-fought contest, narrowly lost out 2-1. The turning point was when Highfield hit the bar with the game level at 1 each and The Oval took advantage by going on to nick a winner.
In the final game of the evening, The Oval gave a real good account of themselves and the 3-1 score-line flattered the Champions. The Oval had more chances than the home-side but the Greens were simply more clinical in front of goal.
The Oval's 3 points against Highfield took them to the Premier summit with Rosary dropping down to 2nd. Lyndon Green lie 3rd with Thornton a couple of points back in 4th. A number of teams have yet to play any games but will hope to do so before the winter break.
