Goals galore for the champions on Tuesday evening as they closed the gap to just a point behind leaders, Hillstone. Abbey made the journey across to Bordesley Green for clashes with hosts, Waverley and fellow visitors, St Matthew’s and the amber and blacks were ruthless about their work as they scored thirteen goals without reply. Abbey defeated Waverley 7-0 and then St Matthew’s, 6-0.
Over at Hollyfields, St Bernadette’s were looking to further enhance their play-off hopes as they took on Short Heath and Gossey Lane. Both Bernie’s and the Heathens scored victories over Gossey Lane, 3-0 and 9-0 respectively, before a tense clash ensued between the two. In a fiercely competitive game, the two sides couldn’t be separated and had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw.
So, Abbey then keep their hopes of the divisional title alive but will have to rely on Hillstone dropping points plus ‘stone have two games in hand. Bernie’s will now have to win all their remaining games to stand any chance of making the top three. Short Heath, though not mathematically out if it, are unlikely to feature in the end of season play-off soiree and have been left to rue their run of bad luck in recent weeks.
