Stone Put Cat Among Pigeons!

By Joe Perkins

Champs take tumble at Hillstone. P&P on rampage again. Bernies up to second after double.

Hillstone rocked champions Abbey as a second-half penalty decided a game that had been dominated by the champions. A defensive error led to the awarding of the spot kick which was duly dispatched, and though Abbey hammered away, they came up against a 'stone goalkeeper in imperious form; the 3 points eventually went the way of the Shard-enders. Hillstone had begun the night with a 3-1 victory over a valiant St Matthew's side who had their 'keeper to thank for keeping them in the game with a string of fine saves. The remaining fixture in Shard End saw Abbey notch up a 3-0 win over a tired St. Matt's side.
Top of the table SS Peter & Paul were in dynamic form once again and showed no mercy to new side, E-ACT Nechells - P&P scored 15 without reply. The black 'n' whites found it tougher going against a battling Waverley outfit who put their bodies on the line and held the score at 1-0 until late into the second half. P&P finally wore the young Wavers down to power home 6-0. P&P have now scored an incredible 52 goals already this term - and have only played 6 times.
It was though a historic night for The Wavers, as a 3-0 win over Nechells gave them their first ever league victory and left the their lads "buzzing", according to boss Mr Millward.
Over at Stud Lane, St Bernadette's were helping themselves to a six point haul that would catapult them up to second place. Bernies saw off Audley 4-0 and Nansen, 5-2. Audley had begun the evening's proceedings with a 3-0 triumph over Nansen.
So, having played 6 games, SS P&P lead the way and are now the only side still with a 100% record. Bernies, as previously reported, are up to second, 5 points adrift, and are joined on 13 points by Hillstone. Abbey lie fourth but have two games in hand on the sides above them - the champions travel to Kingstanding next Tuesday where they will face Maryvale and Ward End.
