Short Heath Shine in Trophy Qualifiers!

By Joe Perkins

Corpus, Blakenhale and Abbey join Heath in finals.

Eight schools competed at CVS on Wednesday evening, braving a chilly night in a bid to qualify for the ESPSFA Trophy finals on December 12th.
Group A pitted Parkfield, Corpus Christi, Rosary and Blakenhale together. Both Corpus and Blakenhale secured victories over Rosary and Parkfield and as they shared a goal-less draw when they clashed, both ended on 7 points and qualified for the finals in December. For the record, Corpus topped the group courtesy of a two-goal better goal difference.
Across in Group B, a quartet of Short Heath, Abbey, Highfield and Paget locked horns in pursuit of another two places in mid-December. Short Heath were notably impressive in winning all three games and scoring eight goals along the way, without reply. In second place. Abbey's superior goal difference took them through ahead of Highfield; both teams finished on four points having won one, drew one and lost one.
Credit to all the teams that turned up and played their hearts out, representing their schools with dignity and honour on a bitterly cold evening.
Next Wednesday sees the second qualifying round and we will then know all the protagonists for the finals night in three week's time.

Where next?

Stone and SSPP Storm to Trophy Finals! Audley and Timberley also into finals.
Treble Top Corpus! Corpus set standard; Matt's make unbeaten start; Hale and Timbers taste victory; Oval, Hillstone and Rosary winless.
