Rosary Rise to Third!

By Joe Perkins

Rosary fight back to down Colebourne. Corpus slam 5 to open account. Paget and Brookfields net first wins.

Stud Lane saw Rosary come from a goal down to edge past a resilient Colebourne side who were indebted to their goalkeeper whose bravery - and penalty save - kept the scoring down to 2. The opening game of the evening saw Rosary held to a 0-0 draw against Corpus Christi. Corpus' profligacy in front of goal left the Lyttleton Road outfit frustrated and still without a goal. However, the Yellows put it right against Colebourne where they went 'nap hand'. Though The Coles scored with the last kick of the game, Corpus were well worth their 5-1 win and a first 3-points of the season.
Also netting their first 3 points of the campaign were Paget and Brookfields, at Hollyfields. Paget saw off Parkfield 3-1 but were then held to a 0-0 draw by Brookfields, whose glove-less goalie played a proverbial blinder. To compound a miserable evening for Parkfield, Brookfields snuck past the Alum Rockers, 3-2.
Over in Shard End, The Oval also suffered a double defeat. Having previously lost only once in four outings so far this term, The Reds were defeated by Brownmead, 4-2, and Alston, 3-1; the latter two sides were making their bow this season. At the time of going to press, the Alston/Brownmead score-line was not to hand.
Rosary then, jump up to third in the table, but have played two games more than the rest in the top six. Corpus are up to eighth, whilst The Oval, on 7 points, remain in sixth.
