P&P Pump up Power!

By Joe Perkins

Saints make it 6 unbeaten. Abbey secure double win. Brookfields denied by Timbers.

Tuesday evening saw another barrage of goals in La Liga and SS Peter and Paul leapfrog Mapledene into top spot.
In an exciting tussle with Yardley, P&P eventually ran out 3-1 winners and were aided by a goalkeeper error - the ball slipping through the Youths keeper's legs and a disputed 'hand-ball' penalty decision. Youths' boss, Mr Walmsley felt the 3-1 scoreline was harsh in his team. P&P also dispatched hosts, Waverley, who had their goalkeeper to thank in keeping the score down to 5-0. Waverley also lost to Yardley, with the Youths winning 4-0. However, Waverley are improving and fielding players all from Year 4, the future looks bright for them.
At Blakenhale, the Abbey were quietly going about their business and like their Erdington counterparts, SS P&P, maintained their unbeaten status. Abbey were impressive in 3-1 and 4-0 defeats of Lea Forest and Blakenhale respectively. Lea Forest grabbed themselves 3 points following a fine 4-0 win against the hosts.
Brookfields continued their good start to their debut campaign in the ESPSFA with a 5-1 triumph over Erdington Hall, at Timberley. In their other game, 'fields had to come from 2 goals down at half-time to snatch a point against a battling Timberley side. The Timbers then inflicted a second defeat of the night on Erdington Hall, in a 3-0 win.
P&P lead the way in La Liga and are 3 points clear of Mapledene having played the same amount of games. Abbey are up to third and lie 6 points back of the dual saints’ school, but have 2 games in hand. Yardley and Brookfields remain in contention in what is a spectacularly close league table. St Bernadette's lie dangerously close behind the leading pack too.
La Liga now takes a break until after February half-time and we look forward to the resumption of hostilities in the spring.
