Mead Nudge Ahead!

By Joe Perkins

Brownmead topple Audley to go top as Harper Bell stiffled by Parkfield. Rosary suffer double blank.

Stud Lane on Thursday evening saw Brownmead leap to the top of the Premier league table after they won a thrilling encounter 3-1 against a valiant Audley side. Audley gaffer, Mr Aksar, lamented his side's profligacy in front of goal, especially in the second half of game in which Brownmead bossed the first period and went in 3 up at the break. Though they pulled one back, Audley failed to find the net again and the points went back to Shard End.
Meanwhile, on an adjacent pitch, Harper Bell kept pace with Brownmead as they thumped Rosary 6-0. Like Audley though, Rosary were punished for not taking their chances early on and then succumbed to Bell's outstanding attacking prowess. However, in their next game, the Digbeth-based side could not break down a stubborn and determined rear-guard action from a hard-working Parkfield outfit and though Bell had the vast majority of possession, the game ended score-less.
In the final game of the night - the Saltley derby - Rosary also failed to score against the well-drilled Parkfield back-line and the red and blues secured back-to-back 0-0 draws, frustrating their near-neighbours in the process. Field boss, Mr Latham, commented after the games that his intention was not to play for two nil-nil draws, but he wasn't fooling anyone!
