Maples Leaf the Way!

By Joe Perkins

Goals galore at Timberley, Youths start with double and Brookfields hit 6 at Waverley.

After another frenzied evening of La Liga football it is Mapledene leading the way atop of the division.
At Timberley goals flew in from every angle and an amazing 26 were shared among the 3 games. Timberley and SS P&P were involved in a titanic struggle of end to end football and it seesawed into an eventual 6-5 win for the Saints.
P&P's game with the Maples was equally as action-packed. The Erdington side romped into a fully deserved, first half 3-0 lead playing with pace, power and clinical finishing. Mapledene could not contain them. The 'Dene's management moved swiftly and a change of formation shift to '2-2-2' coupled with an extraordinary 4 goals from a Year 5 debutant, lended to a pulsating 4-4 draw.
On the back of this thriller Mapledene had the wind in their sails and played some strong football to defeat the Timbers 6-1.
Over at Yardley, the Youths were quietly going about their business and opened their campaign with 1-0, and 3-1 wins, over Blakenhale and Erdington Hall, respectively. In the evening's other game at Yardley, Blakenhale secured their first win, defeating the Hall by 3 goals to 1.
Finally, at Waverley, Brookfields scored 6 goals without reply against the hosts.
Mapledene lead the way then at the summit, but Bernies and Yardley though being 4 points back, have two games in hand. Brookfields and P&P are also holding close attention and with Abbey and Lea Forest yet to start their campaigns, the La Liga division will be as tough as ever.
