Lyn Green Take Year 3/4 Tournament Title!

By Joe Perkins

Bernies lose out in final of exciting tournament.

Lyndon Green’s Year 3s and 4s put their school’s disappointment of missing out on the league title on Tuesday, by winning the inaugural ESPSFA Year 3/4 7-a-side tournament at Power League on Thursday evening.
The Greens defeated a determined St Bernadette’s side by 2 goals to 0 in a fast-paced final with no quarter given by either side.
LG had a faultless, unbeaten ride to the final and beat a very impressive - and to that point free-scoring - Audley team, 2-0, in their semi-final. Opponents, St Bernadette’s, had to battle throughout however, and their semi-final against Mapledene was an epic. With only a minute left on the clock and the match level at 1-1, the game appeared to be heading to a penalty shoot-out. Bernies though had other ideas and when a loose ball fell in the Mapledene box they bundled it home from close range to snatch a dramatic 2-1 win and a final berth.
Overall the tournament was a great success. The children participating did so in good spirit and all said they enjoyed themselves. Finally, many thanks to those who refereed matches and helped to organise the various groups.
We’ll do it all again next week with the girls!
