Happy Abbey Retain Y3/4 Crown!

By Joe Perkins

Abbey blast to 6-a-side title. Parkfield beaten finalists.

Abbey were the stand-out side in a 16-team Year 3/4 tournament at Power League, Yardley and powered their way to secure back-to-back titles scoring 28 times in 6 games in the process.
League newcomers, Paget, Harper Bell and Brookfields made their debuts and joined in with 12 other sides to make 4 groups of 4.
In those stages, Highfield 'A' topped Group C winning all 3 games to set up a quarter final against Group A runners-up Audley 'B''. Lea Forest 'A' ran out winners in Group A and faced Group C runners-up Timberley in the last eight. Brookfields pipped Rosary on goal-difference to take Group 'B' and the two then faced second in Group 'D', Parkfield, and Group D stormers, Abbey, respectively.
Abbey then thumped Rosary 5-2, Highfield A maintained their winning run by beating Audley 'B', 3-1, Lea Forest 'A' nicked a close game, 2-1 and Parkfield needed a penalty shoot-out to usurp Brookfields.
The semi-finals paired Lea Forest 'A' with Parkfield - the Alum Rockers winning comfortably 3-0, while Abbey defeated a spirited Highfield 'A' side, 4-1.
The final was a one-sided affair with Abbey opening the scoring in the first minute. They did not look back, eventually running out 3-0 victors and the trophy was on its way back to Erdington.
